Finish the Medical Assisting Training You Must Have to Start Your New Career
Once you have chosen a program at one of the medical assisting schools and completed your medical assistant training, the next step is certification. It is not necessary to become certified, but a certified medical assistant is more attractive to potential employers. Having a certificate shows employers that your knowledge is strong since you spent time preparing for your certification exam. The American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) is one of the organizations that offers the exams necessary to become a Certified Medical Assistant. In order to be eligible to take the exam you must have completed an accredited training program, and you will need to pay a fee. To make sure your certification then doesn’t expire, you need to either take further yearly educational credits or recertification exams. The certification exam from the AAMA is done on computer and consists of 200 multiple choice questions. The American Medical Technologists (AMT) also offers certification, as well as other organizations including becoming specialized. If you specialize in an area such as ophthalmology, you can get a specialty certification, for example.
